A Tribute to Teachers

When Doubt Creeps In...Keep the Why in Mind

None of us got in this job because we wanted to feel a high level of stress or anxiety, to feel the weight of the world on our shoulders, to feel like this task is just too big. None of us got into this job expecting that some days we would have moments of doubt, moments where we question the path that we have chosen for ourselves.

Unfortunately, moments like these seem to be happening far too often these days. Teachers are disparaged, worn down, and at their limits.

But somewhere inside these moments of doubt and stress, a light still remains. This light, no matter how deep inside of us it has gotten, is what we need to hold onto in moments of uncertainty (or even despair). These moments of light are our why.

Our why grounds us when we question our choices. It is the reason we stepped into this profession from the start.

This light is there to remind us that we got in to this because there was a moment in our lives...maybe it came in childhood or beyond...but a moment where this profession called to us. It was a call to continue the joy we felt or maybe do it differently because our experience was, frankly, bad.

We got in this to be difference makers, connectors, creators of a legacy.
We got in it for the stories, the joy, the aha moments.
We got in it for the children that stand before us each day.

So when we question why...why are we still doing this incredibly hard, sometimes thankless job, look deep inside for that light. Remind yourself of your why.

Because we are the difference makers, the connectors, the ones that will leave a legacy behind. We are the storytellers, the creators of joy, and the illuminators. We are the ones that our children look forward to seeing each day.

We are the curators of our future.
